Brandy's Story

Is there anyone else out there like me?

I was overweight; even though I loved to exercise, educated about nutrition (I teach Family and Consumer Sciences or Home Ec.) and ate healthy! I have PCOS and it is very hard to lose weight. For six consecutive years, I have diligently tried to lose weight on my own. I have tried diets such as Nutrisystem Advanced and Seattle Sutton and I gained weight! I bought a treadmill and walked five miles, five days a week for a year. The treadmeill helped me lose 2lbs a month. For two years, I went to a fitness club five times a week, at 4-5am in the morning. I lost 20lbs and kept it off with the help of my Bodybugg. Last year, I learned that women with PCOS can’t metabolize carbohydrates like other people. I gave up pop (even diet pop) and processed foods. For a year I ate home cooked crock-pot meals of healthy carbohydrates like vegetables, beans (never the beans in the can-too much sodium), and low-fat protein like hormone-free chicken. I admit, I ate out once a week and I made sure it wasn’t too many calories. Years of diligence helped me go from 291 lbs to the 270 lbs range.

When I first visited Dr. Kurani I was a size 26 and 277 lbs. I choose the very low calorie diet (VLCD) no HCG and no Lipo-B. I am now a size 16 and 53 lbs lighter! I wish I did this before I was in my 30’s! I plan to come back for a second round and lose another 50lbs and celebrate a total of 120lbs lost.

If you have PCOS and want to do the VLCD:
1. Don’t just memorize the three mantras.
2. Analyze the way you used to eat and exercise. Going back to the old way of eating won’t work for women with PCOS; it’s a lifestyle change including daily exercise.
3. Design a nutrition plan. Eat your veggies, cut out the processed food and eating out.
4. The Bodybugg is awesome and is worth the price.
5. Most of all, cook 99% of your meals at home!

You have to believe you can lose the weight you want to; even if it takes consecutive years like it was for me. Just because you aren’t losing as much as your friends are or as much as you think is normal, you will lose weight.
